Wisła loses to Górnik Zabrze
Data publikacji: 18-10-2010 13:51Wisła Kraków suffered a defeat in the first league match after an international break. Under Robert Maaskant, Wisła lost 0:1 in an away match against Górnik Zabrze. The decisive goal was scored by Aleksander Kwiek.

After a two-week break and a training session in Zakopane, the White Star team planned to deliver a new quality of football in its challenge against Górnik. However, the match proved to be a disappointing one in terms of both: the final result and the quality of football.
The first half was marked by some intense competition, but only few close tries for goals. Wisła efforts were frustrated by some sturdy Górnik defending, and all crosses into the penalty area were effectively stopped by defenders from Zabrze. Górnik Zabrze were set to play on the counter attack, and waited for the goal-scoring opportunities to arrive. In the 35th minute of the first half, Mariusz Pawełek made a perfect save of a free shoot by Aleksander Kwiek. In the 42th minute, Mariusz Pawełek made another good intervention by entering the penalty area and heading the ball out before Grzegorz Bonin could reach it.
After the break, the game restarted in the same fashion as the first, but the result changed. In the 60th minute, Aleksander Kwiek lost another duel against Pawełek who ejected his shot from 6 meters, but in the 83rd minute “Mario” finally conceded a goal after a shot by the midfielder from Górnik Zabrze. Robert Maaskant tried to change the result by sending substitutes: Łobodziński and Żuławski, but the host team secured a three-point win.
