Defeat in the hit of the series

The last time that Wisła in its own stadium lost to Legia was in 1997. Twelve years and the move of the White Star to Sosnowiec were necessary before the Warsaw team could break this jinx. The happiest man on the pitch was Miroslav Radović, who scored within two minutes of coming onto the pitch.

The first minutes of the match showed that players of trainer Jan Urban had not travelled to Sosnowiec just for a draw. However it was Wisła that created the first dangerous moment. Kirm took the action to the right wing beautifully and centred the ball flat to Paweł Brożek, who only managed to hit the post. In the 21st minute Łobodziński received a perpendicular pass, but at the last moment Choto anticipated him, desperately taking the ball from under his feet. In the 34th minute Radović, brought on a moment earlier, headed the ball towards the goal and luckily it passed just beside the hands of goalkeeper Mariusz Pawełek. Marcelo still tried to rescue the situation, but the Legia lead became a fact.

Wisła began the second half with great spirit. They created a very good chance for themselves in the 53rd minute, when Kirm won the ball from the Warsowian left defender, but Inaki Astiz luckily cleared the ball from the line with the very end of his foot. Patryk Małecki had a great chance to level the score, when from 7 metres he shot just above the crossbar. The end of the game was full of eagerness from Wisła, but they were short of luck, precision and understanding in front of Jan Mucha’s goal.
