Alvarez born on 7 February 1985 started his career as a football player at National Montevideo FC. He was transferred from Montevideo to Reggina where he made his team debut in September 2007. Alvarez played in 20 A Serie games including 9  games in the basic composition of his team. He also played one game as a member of the Uruguayan national representation.

Alvarez will play for Wisła Kraków as a player borrowed from Reggina. After the return of the White Star players from Tallinn he will start training with the new team.
