Wisła Earns A Draw Against Bogusław Wyparło

The White Star drew a 0:0 tie against ŁKS in the Ekstraklasa's 12th round. The Łódź team owes this outcome to Bogusław Wyparło, who saved his team from being scored upon on several occasions.

Just as Maciej Skorża had announced earlier, a few changes were introduced to Wisła’s starting lineup in comparison with the previous match against Ruch Chorzów.  Marcelo took Cleber’s place on defense.  Piotr Brożek also started the match on the bench (replaced by Junior Diaz), in addition to Mauro Cantoro, Marcin Baszczyński, Wojciech Łobodziński, and Marek Zieńczuk.

Nonetheless, in contrast to the match against Chorzów, during the first half of the match Wisła’s players were unable to defeat their opponents’ goalie, who demonstrated his quick reflexes on a number of occasions.  As early as the 7th minute of the match Wyparło defended a powerful shot by Paweł Brożek.  In the 14th minute, he didn’t allow himself to be surprised by a header from Patryk Małecki.  ŁKS’ goalie deflected the ball above the crossbar at the very last moment.

Coach Marek Chojnacki’s players were able to create one threatening play.  In the 24th minute of the match a free kick cross by Dariusz Stachowiak resulted in a header by Vahan Gevorgyan going just past the goalpost.

Banging one’s head against the wall – this phrase best encapsulates the second half of the match.  Wisła practically didn’t move out of ŁKS’ half of the pitch, while the entire Łódź team played on defense.  Every time the home team had an opportunity to score, Bogusław Wyparło, who played the round’s best match, stood in their way.  The ŁKS goalie defended shots by Radosław Sobolewski, Junior Diaz, and Paweł Brożek.  The latter especially could have tipped the balance of the match, but from a mere distance of 5 meters his shot went…right for the goalie.

The White Star failed to take advantage of an opportunity to get ahead of their league rivals.  For coach Skorża’s players it is undoubtedly obvious that a draw against ŁKS is a loss of two points, and not a gain of one.
