Rotation Brings Results
Data publikacji: 04-11-2008 11:49Although six - it would seem - key players were missing from Wisła's starting lineup, the White Star had no trouble in defeating Ruch Chorzów 2:0 in the 11th round of the Ekstraklasa.

Wisła had a pronounced advantage over their opponents during the first half of the match. Ruch Chorzów’s players were unable to carry out even a single play that could truly threaten Mariusz Pawełek’s goal. The home team, on the other hand, took the lead in the 13th minute of the match. Paweł Brożek scored his ninth goal of the season, nearly copying the goal he scored during Poland’s recent match against the Czech Republic. „Brozio“ fired the ball from around the 20 meter mark, leaving Krzysztof Pilarz with no chance of saving the shot. Thanks to their determined play, the White Star raised the score to 2:0 before half time. Junior Diaz scored with a header in extra time. Tomas Jirsak, who crossed the ball into the penalty area from a corner kick, chalked up the assist.
Wisła controlled the pace of the match during the second half, although Chorzów’s players roused themselves around the 80th minute. In the 77th minute Marcin Nowacki received a pass in Wisła’s penalty area, but shot the ball over Pawełek’s goal, while a moment later Wisła’s goalie himself executed a fantastic save by defending a shot by Marcin Zając, who had emerged into an open position. Prior to this, however, the home team could have upped their lead to 3:0. In the 59th minute, Patryk Małecki surprised Pilarz with a shot in the near corner, but Chorzów’s goalkeeper managed to defend the shot. Krzysztof Pilarz performed another heroic save four minutes before the end of the match by maximally stretching himself out, as a result of which he was able to defend a shot by Wojciech Łobodziński, substituted in to replace Andrzej Niedzielan in the second half of the match.
The White Star won the match deservedly. The team’s rather experimental and „international“ defence worked quite well, and to top if off, Junior Diaz scored a goal – the second match in a row. Wisła dominated in the center of the field as well. Tomas Jirsak and Radosław Sobolewski didn’t limit themselves to just making forward passes to the team’s strikers, but also tried taking long-distance shots as well.
