The league match between Wisła and Górnik resulted in a draw. Now it was time for a rematch, and after the first half it seemed as though this would be a repeat of the match against Legia. The home side created goal-scoring opportunities, but the lead was taken by…the guests. In the 5th minute of the match Arkadiusz Głowacki fouled Przemysław Pitry near Wisła’s penalty area. Piotr Madejski took the free kick and crossed the ball into the penalty area, where Leo Markovsky scored with a header.
Wisła’s players didn’t break down after the loss of a goal. They attempted to even the score, with Sebastian Nowak standing in their way. The guests’ goalkeeper defended several one-on-one shots during the first half of the match. Neither Rafał Boguski, Paweł Brożek, nor Marcin Baszczyński was able to get past Nowak. Moreover, towards the end of the first half Górnik’s goalie kicked the ball out from beneath Boguski’s legs in such a way that he ran into the Wisła midfielder, causing him to twist his ankle. Boguski was forced to leave the pitch.
Sebastian Nowak performed excellently in his team’s goal during the second half of the match as well. The team from Zabrze was able to create only one threatening play, but Pitry’s shot into the far corner of Mariusz Pawełek’s goal was deflected out of bounds for a corner kick. Wisła could have evened the score a minute later, but Nowak defended a powerful shot by Junior Diaz. In spite of this, Górnik’s goalie capitulated 10 minutes later. Wojciech Łobodziński, substituted in to replace Patryk Małecki, crossed the ball from the right flank into Górnik’s penalty area. The entire play was capped off by an on-target shot, executed from a distance of around 7 meters, by Marek Zieńczuk. This was “Zienia’s” first goal of the season.
The goal plainly calmed Wisła’s players. Now all they needed was to score one more goal in order to advance to the quarterfinals. They did so in the 79th minute of the match, when following a pass from Piotr Brożek from the left side of the pitch, Junior Diaz left Nowak with no chance as he powered the ball along the ground straight into the net. Coach Skorża’s players took the lead, and had two more occasions to raise the score towards the end of the match, but the outcome remained unchanged with the match ending in a 2:1 victory for Wisła.
