The home team fielded its strongest lineup. Radosław Sobolewski played for virtually the entire duration of the match, with everything seeming to indicate that he will be ready to play in league matches from the very start.

The White Star, which had won only one sparring match so far, had no trouble in defeating Piast Gliwice.  The first goal for the Polish champions came in the 21st minute of the match…in the form of an own-goal.  Paweł Brożek passed the fall from center field to the advancing Junior Diaz on the left wing.  Wisła’s midfielder attempted a shot on goal from just inside the end line, with the ball traveling across the length of the goal, bouncing off of Paweł Gamla, and falling into the net.

Four minutes later it was already 2:0.  Piotr Brożek took the ball away from Piotr Bronowicki and passed it to Diaz.  After exchanging passes with Paweł Brożek, the Costa Rican once again played the ball along the length of the goal line, while another of Piast’s players, Kamil Glik, was again close to sending the ball into his own goal.  Nonetheless, the ball continued its flight until reaching Paweł Brożek, who relayed it back to Diaz, who in turn sent it into Grzegorz Kasprzik’s goal from just a few meters away.

Piast Gliwice failed to create any sure-fire opportunities to score in the first half of the match.  Their chance came in the 48th minute, when Piotr Prędota received a perpendicular pass.  However, Mariusz Pawełek managed to save Wisła from the loss of a goal by emerging from the penalty area to knock the ball away from his opponent’s feet with a slide tackle.

The second half of the match was less interesting than the first.  Wisła, which confidently led 2:0, controlled the pace of the match, while the guests weren’t too eager to go on the offensive.  In spite of this, the White Star’s players raised the score to 3:0 in the 72nd minute.  Kasprzik deflected Radosław Sobolewski’s shot out in front of himself and Piotr Ćwielong converted the rebound into a goal.  Seven minutes later it was 4:0 for the Kraków side.  Marcelo scored his first goal for Wisła after receiving a pass from Marek Zieńczuk.

Beto played the entire second half of the match.  The Brazilian had several nice plays, in addition to an opportunity to score, but ended up hitting Piast’s goalie at the decisive moment.

Less than one week separates the White Star from its first league match of the spring season.  The team will face Polonia Bytom.  If the Kraków team continues to be as effective as in their match against Piast, there should be no reason to doubt that they’ll perform equally well against Bytom.
