Wisła Kraków will face Standard Liege in Europa League!

Published: 19-12-2011 12:49

The draw for Europa League round of 32 and round of 16 was held in the Nyon headquarters of UEFA. In February Wisła Kraków will compete against Belgian Standard Liège.

The first match will take place on the 16th of February in Kraków at 9:05 p.m., while the rematch will be played on the 23rd of February in Liège at 7:00 p.m. Should coach Moskal's team advance to the round of 16, Wisła will play against the winner of the two-legged tie between Hannover 96 and Club Brugge.

The Belgian team finished the group stage of Europa League in first place with 14 points, advancing with ease from group B. The club won 4 matches, scoring 9 goals and losing only 1. The team played against Hannover 96, FC Kopenhaga and FC Vorskla Poltava.

Standard currently occupies 6th place in the Belgian league. The team's defence seems a lot more efficient in Europa League than in Jupiter Pro League. In 17 matches Standard has already lost 21 goals. The club is 6 places behind leading Anderlecht.

"We have neither reasons to complain nor to be overly optimistic. There were no weak teams in this draw" - says Kazimierz Moskal, manager of the White Star. Kazimierz Moskal commented on the draw: "When we drew APOEL, whom we played for the Champions League, many said we were very lucky, but the players from Cyprus proved they can play football. They were first in their group in Champions League".
