Wisła deprived Lech of points and the title

It was Rober Maaskant who won the Dutch-Spanish rivalry. His team defeated Lech, guided by José María Bakero, 1-0. Thus, Lech lost every chance of winning the Polish Champion Title in this season.

The match between the ‘White Star’ and Lech was not at all as exciting as expected. Lech played tentatively, whereas Wisła, despite their slight advantage, were incapable of pressing on their opponents. In the first half, Lech made no attempts on the goal, and Maaskant’s team failed to take advantage of the situations they had. In the 3rd minute, Małecki slightly missed, and in the 11th minute, he miskicked the ball being one-on-one with Kotorowski. In the 33rd minute, Genkov rushed towards the ball centred onto Lech’s penalty area, but he was forestalled by Lech’s goalkeeper.

The second half was not much different. Lech tried to pressurise but Wisła defence skillfully stopped their attacks. In time, Wisła’s counter attacks became more and more dangerous. After Kirm had wasted two excellent opportunities, Genkov took over. In the 73rd minute, he received a pass from Wilk and put the ball into the far corner of Lech's goal.

With this victory, Wisła deprived ‘Kolejorz’ of their chances to retake the title, while making a big step towards winning the title themselves.
