Velez: We missed the fluency we had had in Płock

Despite the expectations of more than 20,000 supporters gathered on the R22 stadium, Wisła Kraków did not end the bad streak and lost 0-1 to Legia.

This is how Frán Velez, the Spanish defender, summed up the match: ‘In comparison with the previous encounter against Wisła Płock, today we missed the fluency we had had last time. We had problems when interpreting the game and we couldn’t create clear chances’.

The match didn’t start well for the White Star. Right after the opening whistle, the Spanish coach had to replace an injured Matej Palčič. Surprisingly, Martin Košťál entered the pitch. ‘We have problems regarding defensive and there was no defender on the bench. Martin did well playing this position. But we don’t want to treat injuries as an excuse. We just have to work and fight’ – said the Spaniard.

After half-time

Although Legia Warszawa played without one player during half an hour, all the efforts Wisła made to break their defensive system were fruitless. The defender, who took matters into his own hands and tried to score from distance, admits the White Star couldn’t create clear chances. ‘However, the rival didn’t have many opportunities either, beside the moments when Kucharczyk hit the woodwork and Pasquato scored a goal. In the end, I think it was quite a close match’ – added Velez.

Next week, Wisła is playing in Białystok against Jagiellonia. ‘I enjoy every time I enter the pitch. We got to the championship round and we play against strong teams. I hope the team will enjoy it and, what is more important, we will start winning’.
