The home team started the match off in spectacular fashion. In the 4th minute Saidi Ntibazonkiza intercepted a stray ball and went against Pareiko. Wisła's goalkeeper, however, managed to make a save against the opponent's shot. Three minutes later Wojciech Kaczmarek made a great save against Dudu Biton's header from a couple of metres.

Cracovia's attacks were not effective, but the team relied on set pieces. In the 37th minute Wisła's problems with defending against free kicks were confirmed. After a cross from Ntibazonkiza, Van der Biezen pushed Chávez out of the way in Wisła's penalty box and scored a header goal.

In the 54th minute Ivica Iliev had a perfect chance for an equaliser, when he received the ball on the 12th metre, but he chose not to shoot immediately, which allowed Cracovia's defenders to take the ball away from him. Ten minutes later the Serbian player once more had an opportunity to score, but in the last moment the shot was deflected by Szeliga for a corner kick. Two minutes later Cezary Wilk received a cross from the right and shot a powerful volley, but the ball just barely missed its target. In the 69th minute Genkov, with only Kaczmarek in front of him, sent the ball over the crossbar. Despite such excellent opportunities, Wisła failed to equalise and eventually lost the derby match.
