Podbeskidzie finds a strategy against Wisła

Already in the last season of the Polish Cup Podbeskidzie proved that it can win on Wisła's stadium. As this season's dark horse of Ekstraklasa, the team from Bielsko-Biała confirmed its worth in a match against stronger opponents. Wisła Kraków was forced to acknowledge this fact after losing 0:1 against Podbeskidzie.

In Kraków the visitors played aggressively from the very beginning and had an apparent advantage in the first minutes. Wisła on the other hand was slow, making numerous mistakes, one of which contributed to a lost goal. In the 27th minute, while running down the right wing, Patejuk was tackled by Paljić. The referee awarded the visitors a free kick. The ball was crossed inside the penalty box and Juraj Dancik scored a header goal.

The loss of a goal was a wake up call for the White Star. The home team ramped up their play in an attempt to equalise as quickly as possible. In the 32nd minute, in a confusion inside the visitors' penalty box, the ball rolled into the goal of Podbeskidzie but the referee did not acknowledge that goal since Wilk tackled Dancik before that.

Towards the end of the first half, coach Robert Maaskant sent in Rafał Boguski to substitute for Gervasio Núñez. Unfortunately, shuffling the line-up made no difference. Podbeskidzie, tucked away on its half, waited for counterattack opportunities, while Wisła remained completely powerless. Despite being cornered near their penalty box for minutes, the visitors put up a strong defence.
