Penalty kicks decisive in the Polish SuperCup
Published: 29-07-2009 15:05Only after the penalty kicks did we learn the winner of the Polish SuperCup. Lech won 4:3, but Wisła showed that they were able to recover from their Tallinn defeat.

The SuperCup game was supposed to be a return match. For Maciej Skorża's team it was also a chance to make up, at least in part, for their defeat in Tallinn and lost chance to fight for the European cups. At the beginning the champions of Poland were not lucky. In the 9. minute Pawełek was not able to defend a goal following Lewandowski's shot at the near post.
Lech slightly withdrew to a defensive position, waiting for the chances to counter-attack, which were supposed to deal a death blow to Wisła. Despite good opportunities, the team did not manage to score a goal and Wisła got back in the game. In the 35. minute Patryk Małecki shooting a free kick placed the ball in the penalty area, and then Junior Diaz, jumping highest, scored with a header.
In the second half it was Wisła that dominated, but despite this the White Star was still not able to play effectively. Paweł Brożek, Ćwielong and above all Małecki lost the chances to score. Lech, in turn, could have turned the balance to its side in extra time, but Pawełek, despite being left on his own, managed to defend the shot by Krzysztof Chrapek.
At the end of the normal time the score was tied, so the penalty kicks, in which Lech did better, were decisive for the final score. Małecki’s decisive kick was defended by Kasprzik.
