FK Qarabag Agdam outpoints Wisła
Published: 30-07-2010 13:47Wisła’s chances of progressing to the play off-round of the UEFA Europe League are diminishing. Wisła Kraków lost 0:1 against FK Qarabağ Ağdam in the first match of round 3. On top, Maciej Żurawski missed penalty in the last minute of the game.

At the Hutnik Stadium, Wisła’s supporters witnessed an unexpected defeat of the host team after a game that could hardly impress anyone. Wisła footballers were forced to play by the rules dictated by their opponents. Under the leadership of the coach, Gurban Gurbanov, FK Qarabağ Ağdam was cautious in the defence and took every opportunity to send long passes to Raut Aliyev, whose task was to finish.
However, the Azerbaijan striker was not the one to cause a sensation. It was Vugar Nadirov, who substituted him in 69th minute. Several seconds later, Vugar Nadirov took possession of the ball, evaded Piotr Brożek, entered the penalty area and made a flat shot to the net.
Wisła failed to create many opportunities to defeat Farhad Valiyev, FK Qarabağ Ağdam's goalkeeper. In 9th minute, Mateusz Kowalski shot against the post after receiving a corner pass from Tomas Jirsak. Later, in extra time, even better opportunity was wasted by Wisła. After Patryk Małecki (who substituted Rafał Boguski after the break) was fouled inside the penalty area, the referee awarded a penalty kick for Wisła. However, Farhad Valiyev saved the penalty of Maciej Żurawski.
Now the White Star awaits a very difficult return match.
