Carrillo: We played the way they wanted us to play

The White Star lost 0-1 to Legia Warszawa on Sunday and is still eight in the league. Although the away team played without one player during almost half an hour, Wisła did not manage to equalise.

‘I am disappointed with this match and I would like to apologize to the supporters for what they saw. They were the best member of the team. We played against a good team, had many problems in defense and needed to improvise. That is why Košťál entered the pitch and till he got injured, had done a very good job. I do not want to look for excuses, we just played the way the rival wanted us to play’ – said on the post-match conference Joan Carrillo.

Tactics crumbled

Although Legia played in 10 men, the home team couldn’t break their defensive wall. What were the reasons of these fruitless efforts? ‘We committed many mistakes but it is not boxing where you win when you strike more blows than your rival. We wanted to play more in the air but instead, we often played at ground level. We couldn’t break Legia’s defensive system down. I need to admit Legia was stronger’ – emphasized the Spaniard.

‘In this match, we did not have physical problems but the tactical ones. We lost the control and we had problems in defense” – observed the 49-year-old coach.

Wisła did not have any defender on the bench and that is why Matej Palčič, who got injured right after the opening whistle, was replaced by the nominal winger - Martin Košťál. The young player did well but also left the pitch injured. The coach, asked about junior players that could have helped, explained: ‘Yesterday, we watched their match against Legia. I could observe that they also had problems in defense. Piotrek Świątko is injured, Damian Korczyk is not a full-back and there was no one to help us”.
