Bulgaria conquered! Time for revenge in Krakow
Published: 30-07-2011 12:57The White Star has taken another big step towards the European Cup. In Lovech it has beaten the local Litex in the first game of the third round of the qualifications for the Champions League 2-1 after goals from Michael Lamey and Maor Melikson.

"I will not be disappointed if tomorrow's match will end with a score of 1-1" – said Robert Maaskant, the coach of Vistula, before the match with Bulgaria's champion. After the first half of the game he might have regretted those words, because up to the 45th minute his team was wining 1-0 after a goal by Michael Lamey. But Litex set the bar too high for its rivals. Actions in the host’s wings wreaked havoc in the ranks of Krakow, but luck favoured the Polish champions. However, it was only during overtime in a moment of distraction that they were able to take revenge on Krakow. In Vistula's penalty area Tom, who wasn't surrounded, got the ball, he turned with it, kicked it, and after a ricochet it fell into the net.
In the second part of the game Maaskant’s proteges focused mainly on defence. Litex attacked fiercely, but every time Jovanić was on position. Vistulans tried to counter-attack their rivals. In the 66th minute one of their actions should have even resulted in a goal, but Iliev missed by centimetres, to direct the ball in the net after a pass from Genkow. Ten minutes later Melikson sent a few hundred supporters of Vistula into a frenzy of joy at the stadium in Lovech. Wilk showed off with a pass from the depths of the field, Melikson himself went off against Vinicius and scored a goal along the ground, which gave Vistula the lead.
