A draw without advancement

In Kraków, Wisła managed to overcome Standard Liège's defence. In Belgium, this proved impossible. Now, thanks to the goal scored in Kraków, Standard will be advancing to Europa League round of 16. Unfortunately, despite not having lost any games against the Belgians and being the better team on the pitch, Wisła will no longer be appearing in the European cup.

The draw in Kraków favoured Standard, since in order to advance, Wisła now needed a goal. Therefore, it was no surprise when coach Riga replaced his right midfielder with a defender. The home team played just like in Kraków – tucked away on their side, waiting for Wisła's moves and setting up a strong defence. The effect: Wisła had very little goal scoring opportunities.

From the 63rd minute, the visitors had an even tougher time, as Nunez saw a second yellow card and, just like in the first match, Wisła was one player down. However, Standard was not eager to go on the offence, still waiting for Wisła's attacks on their half of the pitch.

In the 76th minute, coach Moskal decided to go all out. In place of defender Jovanović, he sent in attacker Biton. The effect of this tactic was immediate, and Kirm and Biton came close to scoring goals after a pass from Melikson from the right side. Unfortunately, both players botched and sent the ball off the pitch. As these were Wisła's last chances at scoring, the club found itself outside the European cup.
