Young Wisła are Champions!
Published: 18-05-2008 12:28In the last match of the Young Ekstraklasa League Wisła Kraków defeated Korona Kielce 1:0 after a fierce struggle on the pitch. The goal that gave Wisła the championship title was scored by Kamil Jeleń in the 93rd minute.
From the beginning of the match is it was Korona Kielce that carried out clever plays and aimed at scoring a goal during the first minutes of the match. The guest should have taken the lead in the 4th minute but Kiełb’s shot hit the post. Wisła didn’t really threaten Korona’s goal until the 26th minute of the match. Dawid Kubowicz caught sight of Tomasz Dawidowski, who was well positioned in the penalty area, and made a perpendicular pass to the Wisła striker. Dawidowski, however, sent the ball straight into the goalie’s hands.
The match became more dynamic in the second half, although neither side had any clear opportunities to score. Five minutes into the second half Łukasz Jarosiński won a one-on-one duel against Kiełb. The situation repeated itself ten minutes later. Once again Kiełb, who was unguarded in the penalty area, had an opportunity to score a goal, and once again Jarosiński made an excellent save.
Twenty minutes before the end of the match Coach Tomasz Kulawik decided to take Krasnodębski off the field, and placed his bets on Kamil Jeleń. As it turns out, this was an excellent decision. A little over ten minutes remained in the match and Wisła’s players attempted to battle for a goal as though they were fighting for their lives. First Bartosz Rosłoń’s shot hit the crossbar, and then Rygielski’s shot passed next to the goal.
When it seemed as though Wisła would have to satisfy themselves with a silver medal, Kamil Jeleń got hold of the ball amidst the chaos in front of the goal and defeated Korona’s goalie, who was caught completely off guard. Jeleń gave Wisła the victory and triumph in the Young Ekstraklasa League in the 93rd minute of the match.
