Wisla ties against Wisla
Published: 18-07-2008 20:23The White Star tied 1:1 against its namesake from Płock in a sparring match held on Tuesday. Goals were scored by Jacek Wisniewski for Wisla Plock and Rafal Boguski for Wisla Krakow.
The White Star played in an experimental lineup during the first half of the match. Despite this fact, the hosts had a number of opportunities to score. Unfortunately, they were lacking in effectiveness. The guests were better able to take advantage of their opportunities by taking the lead in the 28th minute. Following a free kick executed by Adrian Mierzejewski, Jacek Wisniewski jumped up in the penalty area and lobbed the ball over Ilie Cebanu with a clever head shot.
Two minutes later it could have been 1:1, but the ball hit the side net of the Płock team’s goal following a volley shot from Grzegorz Kmiecik. Dawidowski scored a goal in the 33rd minute, however, the referee called offside.
Coach Skorza fielded his strongest team during the second half. Wisła went on the offensive from the very start. The effects of this could be seen in the 54th minute, when Rafal Boguski converted an excellent pass from Tomas Jirsak into a goal. Coach Skorza’s players attempted to score a second goal in the subsequent minutes of the match.
In the 65th minute of the match Arkadiusz Glowacki took a shot on goal from a free kick, but Wisla Plock’s goalie was able to save the Krakow defender’s shot. Two minutes later, Piotr Brozek’s head shot sailed next to the goal. His brother Pawel also failed to take advantage of a good opportunity to score in the 69th minute when his shot flew over the goal.
Wisla Krakow could have ensured themselves a victory towards the end of the match following a mistake on the part of one of Wisla Plock’s players. As a result of a misunderstanding between one of the defenders and the goalie, the ball passed the latter, but rolled by the goal post instead of ending up in the net. The match thus ended in a draw.
