Wisła defeated Brazil 2:0

The White Star defeated Brazil's U-20 national team 2:0 in a friendly match played in Toronto. Tomas Jirsak and Mauro Cantoro scored the two goals for Wisła.

The match began well for the home side. In the 10th minute Renan Olivieira added his name to the list of scorers, but the goal was not recognized by the referee, who called the shooter offside. During the first part of the match the game was played mostly in the midfield area, with neither side being able to create a single threatening play on their opponent’s goal.

During the second half of the match Marcin Juszczyk appeared in Wisła’s goal, changing Ilie Cebanu. As early as 7 minutes later Juszczyk showed off his good reflexes by saving a shot executed by Everton from a sharp angle. Wisła had their best opportunity to take the lead in the 54th minute of the match. Tomas Jirsak found himself one-on-one in front of Brazil’s goalkeeper after receiving a pass from Marek Zieńczuk. The Czech player shot the ball over the crossbar from around the 8 meter mark. Two minutes later, however, Jirsak corrected his mistake by scoring a goal. Rafał Boguski passed the ball into the penalty area from the right side, while Jirsak volleyed the ball into the left corner of Vladimir’s goal.

Wisła’s players did not ease up on the pace. In the 63rd minute of the match Junior Diaz powered the ball so hard from 40 meters away that the ball hit the crossbar, almost breaking it in the process. A few minutes later a penalty kick should have been awarded to Wisła after Boguski was fouled in Brazil’s penalty area, but the referee failed to call the foul. Ten minutes before the end of the match Wisła raised the score to 2:0. Tomas Jirsak passed the ball along the sixteen meter line to Cantoro, who kicked the ball running at full speed in such a way that Lenoardo didn’t have the slightest chance at saving it.

Maciej Skorża’s players deservedly won the match, although at times the young Brazilian players were able to threaten Wisła’s goal. Following the end of the match the players gathered in the middle of the pitch and thanked the fans for their support. They then walked up to the stand occupied by the White Star’s fans in order to thank them once again for coming.
