Wisła are the Masters!

The White Star defeated Cracovia 2:1 in the 175th derby of Kraków, thus ending a series of undefeated matches for Stefan Majewski’s team. Paweł Brożek scored both of the Polish Champion’s goals.

The match was not the most pleasing to the eye. Both teams’ players often resorted to fouling each other, which certainly did not positively influence the quality of the spectacle. Nonetheless, it was the White Star that won this “Holy War,” which didn’t come easy. Things started off very well – in the 15th minute Paweł Brożek took advantage of Wojciech Łobodziński’s excellent cross and conquered Marcin Cabaj with a headshot, thereby scoring his 17th goal this season.

The guests then took the initiative and created a number of opportunities to even the score, but Moskała, Dudzic, and Kulig’s shots were all off target. The “Stripes” nevertheless were finally able to even the score during the second half. In the 53rd minute of the match Przemysław Kulig lobbed the ball over Mariusz Pawełek after Arkadiusz Baran crossed the ball into the penalty area from a corner kick.

11 minutes later Wisła responded with a play that brought them victory. Łobodziński once again crossed the ball into the penalty area where Paweł Brożek placed the ball into the goal with his head for the second time. Brożek has scored 18 times this season and is well on his way to becoming the league’s top scorer.

After the match the winning team’s players took an honorary lap around the stadium, thanking the fans for their support. At the end, the players gathered in the middle of the pitch and once again applauded the fans.
