Tottenham in UEFA Cup

Published: 30-08-2008 09:59

In Round I of the UEFA Cup Wisła will play against the club drawn at the selection draw, held in Monaco. The first match will be in England on the 18th of September, while the return game will be on the 2nd of October at Reymonta Street.

Tottenham Hotspur has twice won the English championship (1951, 1961), triumphed twice in the UEFA Cup games (1972, 1984) and once in the Cup Winners’ Cup (1963). In the past season Spurs only finished in 11th place in the Premiership, but due to winning the English League Cup, they qualify to play in the UEFA Cup.

Since October 2007 the Tottenham trainer has been the Spaniard, Juande Ramos, the former trainer of FC Seville, with whom he won the UEFA Cup among other trophies. One of the greatest stars in the team is the Bulgarian, Dymitar Berbatow, who perhaps may be transferred to Manchester United. Spurs came close to recruiting the Russian player Andriej Arszawin from Zenit St. Petersburg, who was one of the revelations of the 2008 European Championships, yet in the end it did not take place.

The current season began very badly for Tottenham. After two rounds and two defeats they are only in 17th place in the table.
