The goal that paved the way to the final
Published: 30-04-2008 13:17Paweł Brożek's goal in the 65th minute of the second leg game against Groclin allowed Wisła to advance to the Polish Cup final. "Brozio" gave the White Star its victory three minutes after Arkadiusz Głowacki received his second yellow card and had to leave the field.
The first half of the match did not fail to please fans as, despite ending in a goal-less tie, both sides had ample opportunities to score.
The match’s pace was equally good during the second half. In the 62nd minute Wisła’s captain received his second yellow card after touching the ball with his hand. From this moment on Maciej Skorża’s players had to play one man down. Nevertheless, it was Wisła that carried out a great play in the 65th minute of the match. Łobodziński passed the ball to Paweł Brożek, who had no problem getting the ball past the home side’s goalkeeper. A moment later it could have been 2:0 – Boguski passed the ball to Zieńczuk on the left side. Zieńczuk powered the ball to the far post, just barely missing the goal.
Towards the end of the match the home side had a chance to even the score. First in the 82nd minute Rocki made an attempt on goal from a sharp angle, but Pawełek was well positioned and had not trouble catching the ball. A moment later Lato took a strong shot, but as it turned out he was offside. Cleber, who played an excellent match, saved Wisła during added time. He cleared the ball out from the goal line following Majewski’s shot.
One goal thus determined the outcome of the semifinal rivalry between Wisła and Groclin. Thanks to Paweł Brożek’s goal Wisła advanced to the final of the Polish Cup, where the team will face Legia Warsaw.
