That's what you call ambition!

Wisła Kraków defeated ŁKS 5:2, despite being down 0:2 at half time! Nevertheless, during the second half the Polish Champions demonstrated the true will of a fighter by scoring 4 goals in the course of 13 minutes!

As promised, Coach Skorża did not field his strongest team. Ilie Cebanu debuted in his first league match as goalie, while the defense was short of Marcin Baszczyński, whereas Krzysztof Mączyński played alongside Mauro Cantoro in midfield.

It’s unsure whether or not the slightly experimental makeup of the team contributed to the fact that Wisła could not get their game together in the first half of the match. As if this were not enough – they lost two goals in 15 minutes. Jovino first astonished everyone by scoring a goal for his team in the 10th minute. The Brazilian received a perpendicular pass from Sebastian Mila and with a cunning shot placed the ball into the goal. A quarter of an hour didn’t go by and ŁKS was up 2:0. Łukasz Madej sent the ball to Ensar Arifovic, who lobbed it over Ilie Cebanu, who had come out of the goal.

Wisła’s impatient fans began to sing: “More ambition, Wisła, more ambition!” This seemed to work, as just two minutes after the start of the second half the White Star scored a goal to narrow ŁKS’s lead down to one goal. In the 48th minute Jean Paulista crossed the ball from the right wing into ŁKS’s penalty area, and the play was finished by a beautiful head shot executed by Junior Diaz. Wisła fans had to wait until the 77th minute for a second goal. This time Tomas Jirsak chalked up an assist when he sent the ball perfectly onto Marek Zieńczuk’s head from a corner kick. The White Star’s midfielder evened the score to 2:2 with a head shot into the top corner of the goal. From there it was all downhill. 120 seconds after Zieńczuk’s goal Paweł Brożek, on his way to becoming the league’s top goal scorer this season, added his name to the list of scorers. Marek Zieńczuk crossed the ball over ŁKS’s 16 meter line and “Brozio” scored with a head shot. This goal completely broke the Łódź team’s morale, as from then on they were unable to stop Wisła’s momentum. The hosts used this to raise the score to 4:2 in the 82nd minute. The play was started by Jean Paulista, who passed the ball to Tomas Jirsak. The Czech retreated the ball from the end line to the Brazilian, who didn’t give Marcin Pająk a chance as he powered the ball into the far corner of the goal. Paweł Brożek finished off Wisła’s opponents in the 90th minute. The White Star’s forward took advantage of Sebastian Mila’s bad pass to Adamski by intercepting the ball. He charged towards Pająk’s goal and fixed the outcome of the match at 5:2 with a perfect shot on target!

At the end of the match the ecstatic fans sang – “That’s what you call ambition, Wisła, that’s what you call ambition!” Indeed, irritated by the outcome, Wisła’s players were able to motivate themselves and showed who the true champion really was. They deserve a scolding for the first half, and a round of ovation for the second half.
