Marcelo joins Wisła Kraków

21-year-old Brazilian stopper Marcelo Antonio Guedes Filho has signed a 5-year contract with Wisła Kraków. Marcelo was born on 25th May 1987 in Sao Vicente. Marcelo is 190 cm tall and weighs 79 kg. He left the famous Brazilian Santos Football Club, where he played 66 matches and scored three goals.

Wisła Kraków presented the new player at a special press conference. "I will do my best in Wisła, I will try very hard to play as good as I used to in Santos, and even better" – the new White Star stopper declared to the journalists.

Marcelo is a product of the Santos’ youth system, he played four matches in the Brazilian national under-21 football team. When asked whether he feels ‘relegated’ upon his arrival to Wisła, he responded in the following words: „We are in Europe, Wisła moves ahead, it develops, and I am very happy to play in such a good football club”. He has been long contemplating the thought of leaving Santos and Brazil, he added. „When I was in Brazil, I learned many things about Wisła on my own. I was also doing some research about other clubs” –Marcelo explained.

According to Mr. Jacek Bednarz, Wisła Sport Director, Marcelo has already received a work permit, and the club is expecting his certificate to arrive soon. In other to settle all residential formalities, Marcelo is likely to fly back Brazil today. Jacek Bednarz expressed the club’s commitment to make all possible efforts so that Marcelo can play in the Polish League games and the UEFA Cup match against Tottenham as soon as possible.

Marcelo will wear shirt number 3.
