First 2 league matches have been postponed

Published: 01-08-2008 00:04

Due to the lack of a final decision concerning which teams shall play in the Ekstraklasa, a decision was taken to cancel the first two league matches of the season. At this point it is unclear whether or not the season will commence on August 8th.

The entire turmoil appeared when the appeals of clubs that had been barred from the Ekstraklasa for corruption were recognized.  It is unclear whether the teams that advanced to the Ekstraklasa in place of the barred teams, or conversely, those teams whose appeals turned out to be successful, should play in the league.

The first round of league matches has been postponed until the beginning of November due to the confusion, while a decision has not yet been taken regarding when the second round of matches is to be played.  In the meantime, Ekstraklasa SA has definitively decided that the league will be composed of 16 teams.
