A goalless tie in Grodzisk

Published: 07-05-2008 13:31

Groclin's last first league match at their home stadium in Grodzisk resulted in a goalless tie. The home side tied Wisła Kraków. The battle to earn the right to play in the UEFA Cup thus continues.

Wisła traveled to Grodzisk without a few of their key players. Despite this fact, they attempted to threaten Sebastian Przyrowski’s goal from the very get-go. Already in the 9th minute Rafał Boguski had an opportunity to score, but his volley shot was off target. In the 34th minute Jirsak’s shot was headed on target, but Przyrowski blocked the shot with his leg. The home team also had their chance to take the lead, but Majewski, Sikora, Rocki, and Lato’s shots were all defended by Mariusz Pawełek.

Wisła prevailed during the first half of the match, but the look of the game slightly changed during the second half. Nevertheless, the White Star should have taken the lead in the 57th minute, but referee Żyro didn’t call a penalty shot after Olejniczak fouled Paulista in the home side’s penalty area. Ten minutes later it could have been 1:0 for the home team. Radosław Majewski decided to take a shot on goal from a distance of 25 meters, but Mariusz Pawełek executed an excellent save by defending the shot with the tips of his fingers. Towards the end of the match the home side had more opportunities to score, but fortunately enough, Mariusz Pawełek was undefeatable.
