A Sparring Tie

Wisła drew a 1:1 tie against FC Copenhagen in their third sparring match played while in Austria. If it weren't for a goal lost in the second minute of the match the White Star might have even won.

The match could not have started off worse for Wisła. Already in the 2nd minute Sionko crossed the ball from a free kick executed from the right side of the pitch, while Laursen directed the ball into the net. The Danish team dominated, while Wisła found themselves in a sorry plight, especially following plays down the right flank. At the match’s 15-minute mark not much seemed to indicate that Wisła would be able to obtain a favorable outcome. Nevertheless, it was precisely from this moment on that the White Star began to improve their game – the team began to play more confidently on defense, while their offensive plays became more interesting. In the 21st minute the Cracovians carried out a very nice play down the left flank. Piotr Brożek crossed the ball into the penalty area, but his brother failed to take an effective shot on goal, as he seemed a bit dumbfounded by the fact that one of the Danish defenders wasn’t able to intercept the pass. A moment later Wisła evened the score. Boguski ran into the penalty area and, as he was being pulled by the shirt, the referee called a penalty kick. Cleber surely and successfully executed the penalty shot.

Wisła followed this blow with a number of goal-scoring opportunities. Zieńczuk didn’t manage to kick the ball cleanly after receiving a pass from Paweł Brożek, while “Brozio’s” head shot, following a pass from “Zienia,” did not surprise Christiansen. Wisła played well during this period of the match and controlled the situation on the field. The only thing that was missing was a goal.

Wisła played well during the beginning of the second half of the match as well. The White Star could have scored three times in the course of ten minutes. Following this period Wisła’s attacks subsided, and the match became weaker in comparison with the interesting first half. Wisła created one more opportunity to score following a cross from Piotr Brożek, while FC Kopenhaga had two opportunities following a head shot from Laursen and an individual play by Sionko, however, the outcome remained unchanged.

One could say that with each successive sparring match Wisła is making headway. Although this time they only managed to tie, nonetheless, one can be satisfied by the way in which the team played.
