A Champion's End to the Season!
Published: 10-05-2008 12:2477 points, 24 victories, 5 ties, and one defeat - this is how Wisła Kraków's record presents itself for the 2007/2008 season, which just came to a conclusion. The White Star defeated Zagłębie Sosnowiec 4:0 in the last match of the season.
The first half of the match was quite torpid, even though Zagłębia Sosnowiec’s players attempted to threaten Wisła’s goal. In the 15th minute Marcin Juszczyk had trouble defending Paweł Cygnar’s shot, while towards the end of the first half this same player once again positioned himself well to take a shot on goal, but the ball went past the goal post. However, it was Wisła who ended the first half in the lead. In the 31st minute of the match Marcin Komorowski played a handball in the penalty area. Referee Wasielewski dictated a penalty kick for the home side, which Cleber took advantage of, scoring his fourth goal of the season.
After halftime Wisła began to play with one striker – Paweł Brożek, as Coach Skorża took Radosław Matusiak off the field. And it was this striker that scored his 22nd goal of the season. In the 53rd minute of the match Wisła carried out a counterattack with two-on-two. Paulista intercepted the ball and passed it to Paweł Brożek, who defeated Kurdziel with a nice technical shot.
Ten minutes later Paweł once again added his name to the list of scorers. “Brozio” took advantage of a pass from Jean Paulista and with a shot on target scored his 23rd goal this season. A moment later the most effective striker left the field to be substituted by Andrzej Niedzielan. In the 87th minute Wisła finished off their opponents by scoring for the fourth time, with Tomas Jirsak showing off a beautiful shot.
The White Star ends the season in first place. Aside from this, Paweł Brożek, who scored 23 times this season, won the title of the league’s top scorer!
