90% champions
Published: 11-05-2009 15:36On Saturday Marek Zieńczuk said that the winner of the meeting would have 90% chance to become a champion. The Wisla team after beating Legia has become the champion in 90% and it needs only 10% to achieve it. It is just 10%, or perhaps we should say, as much as 10%, because the team must win 3 more games, including two as a visitor team.

For many, Legia’s victory or even a draw in the Sunday’s most awaited game virtually made that team a champion. But to prevent it, the Wisla team would have had to win. After the first 45 minutes it seemed that the White Star would achieve this task easily. Legia did not even approach the goal line guarded by Mariusz Pawełek and the shot statistics showed an overwhelming advantage of the home team. Wisła shot 9 times, scoring one goal, and Legia shot only once, and still failed to score a goal.
Wisła took the lead in the 36. minute of the game. Rafał Boguski played the ball quickly to Marcelo who was still on Legia’s side of the field, following an earlier corner kick, and then scored a goal shooting precisely from the distance of ca. 12 metres, which made all the fans at the stadium in Reymonta street transported with joy.
The score was evened in the second half and now Legia failed to use several scoring chances. 17 minutes before the end of the game the result could have been 1:1, were it not for the fact that Mariusz Pawełek craftly defended the rebound shot of Maciej Rybus from the distance of several metres. Several dozen seconds later Chinyama failed to place the ball in a free net. War of nerves was finally won by the Wisła team that took the lead.
